VISIONS FROM THE PAST - Cinema Odeon

CINEMA TEATRO ODEON
Address: Piazza Strozzi 2, Florence
How to get there: It is in the heart of the city, a few steps from Piazza della Repubblica

Odeon Cinema is a place of cultural exchange and a reference point for movie culture. It's one of the historical cinemas in Florence where you can relive the enchantment of the cinema of the past...

A dip in the past with the Cinema of the Twenties
Odeon Cinema is a place of cultural exchange and a reference point for movie culture. It is one of the historical cinemas in Florence where you can relive the enchantment of the cinema of the past.

It was built in the early 1900 with all the elegance and luxury typical of Art-Deco, with bronze statues, golden capitals and a glass dome of wrought iron. Even today, sitting on those gold-coloured velvet seats, bring us back to the magic Twenties.
The Odeon's projections are mostly in English language. There are many International Film Festival during which you can seat in the hall together with the Film-Director or some Actors and often happens you can chat with them.

Today the film industry in Italy has, among others, two big problems: the first is that all the movies are dubbed to be shown in Italian (Odeon is almost the only exception in Florence) and the second is that, unfortunately, the historical halls of the city centre are getting closed because of the arrival of multiplex (again, this is not the case of Odeon as it is quite frequented).

Anyway, I would recommend everyone to go to Odeon Cinema because it is really lovely and high-level projections. It would be a shame if it were to close.
